Established in 1930 with the merger of the Irrigation and Drainage Department (1930 - 1930) and the Land and Survey Department (1917 - 1930). In 1992 the Department of Lands alongside the Office of Planning and Urban Development (1992 - 1993) merged together to form the Department of Environment and Land Management (1992 - 1993).
