Bao, Tianxiao

1876–1973

chinesischer Schriftsteller, Übersetzer und Herausgeber. -Bao Tianxiao (Pao T'ien-hsiao 包天笑) 1875-1973. Originally named Bao Gongyi (包公毅), he started to teach as a private tutor at the age of sixteen and obtained the first degree (xiucai秀才) at eighteen. He used many different pen-names (筆名) during the seventy years of his literary career, wrote more than thirty novels, edited many newspapers and magazines, and was also a translator and one of the founders of the 'Southern [Poetry] Society'. Born in Suzhou, he lived many years in Shanghai, then in 1947 moved to Taiwan, and later to Hong Kong, where he died. Works: Ren jian diyue xuji (人間地獄續集, A Living Hell, Sequel) 1928, Liufang ji (留芳記, Shine Forever) 1925, Yishi zhuxing de bainian bianqian (衣食住行的百年變遷, The Changes of the Basic Necessities of Life) 1964.Translated stories by H. Rider Haggard and Hector Malot. - 包公毅（1876年2月26日－1973年10月30日），原名清柱， 號朗孫，後更名公毅，筆名包天笑，20世紀中國通俗文學作家，鴛鴦蝴蝶派作家。生平: 包天笑是江蘇省蘇州府吳縣人。 1894年考取秀才，此前2年已經開私塾教書為生。 1900年與友人合資在蘇州開設東來書莊並發行《勵學譯編》，經銷中國留學生在日本出版的《浙江潮》等期刊，以及日文書刊。 1901年，包天笑與其表兄尤志選（號子青）在蘇州護龍街砂皮巷口創辦大眾化報紙《蘇州白話報》。 1906年，包天笑定居上海愛文義路勝業裡，任《時報》外埠新聞和副刊《餘興》編輯，並編輯《小說時報》和《婦女時報》。 1912年，包天笑去商務印書館兼職，參加編寫國文教科書。此後先後出任文明書局刊物《小說大觀》和《小說畫報》，大東書局《星期》周刊，以及《立報》《花果山》副刊主編。包天笑的翻譯作品有《空谷蘭》、《梅花落》、《迦因小傳》、《天方夜談》等。後來著有不少白話小說。他本人也兼任明星影片公司編劇，將其中一些作品改編為電影。包天笑參加過幾個文人社團。 1909年加入南社。 1922年加入青社。1947年，包天笑前往台灣，1949年後定居香港，寫作《釧影樓回憶錄》。 1973年10月30日，包天笑在香港病逝，享年97歲。
