American economist specializing in international financial institutions, especially the International Monetary Fund and sovereign wealth funds. He has been a Senior Fellow with the Peterson Institute for International Economics since 2001. Staff economist for the Federal Open Market Committee, 1983-1998. Directed the Division of International Finance at the Federal Reserve System, 1977-1998.
