University dismantled by the former Ethiopian govt. in 1990 and moved to Addis Ababa and Bale; reestablished in Asmara in Aug. 1991 as a self-governing university whose autonomy is guaranteed by its charter; reopened in Sept. 1991; medium of instruction is English
