he has worked in United States intelligence and policy work for forty years; he was a HUMINT case officer in Vietnam; an analyst following the Chinese military at DIA and CIA; Deputy Secretary of Defense for Middle East and South Asia; Assistant Secretary of State for Bureau of Intelligence and Research; currently he is an independent researcher focused on intelligence analysis; he consults on Asian and Middle Eastern affairs ; enlisted in United States Army in 1962; he toured with 29th Infantry Battalion, 197th Infantry Brigade in Fort Benning, Georgia; he served in Vietnam with MACV from 1965 to 1966; M.A. in East Asian Studies and B.A. in Asian Studies at Florida State University; he served with 525th MI Group in South Vietnam from 1970 to 1971; he has held many positions as a foreign policy and defense advisor, including China analyst at Central Intelligence Agency; he retired in 1993; he established a strategic consulting firm named Ford and Associates in Washington, DC
