Von 1995 bis 1996 war er Dozent in Swansea und anschließend Dozent an der Queen's University Belfast (1996 bis 1998). Im Jahr 1998 wurde er zum Dozenten an der National University of Ireland, Maynooth, ernannt und wurde 2001 zum Senior Lecturer befördert. Im Jahr 2005 wurde er dann zum Professor für Humangeographie ernannt. Mitherausgeber der International Encyclopedia of Human Geography.
