Professor Child's career started with posts in marketing and personnel at Rolls-Royce Ltd.; he worked as a Research Fellow at Aston University from 1966 to 1968 and then held a faculty position at the London Business School until 1973; in that year he was appointed Professor of Organizational Behaviour at Aston University; from 1986 to 1989 he was Dean of the Aston Business School; during 1989-90, he was seconded to the position of Dean and Director of the China-European Community Management Centre in Beijing with which he had been connected since 1985; he took up the Guinness (later Diageo) Chair of Management at Cambridge in 1991; he was Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Organization Studies from 1992 to 1996; he also founded the Centre for International Business and Management [CIBAM] at Cambridge

he was formerly Diageo Professor of Management at the Univ. of Cambridge and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Univ. of Hong Kong
