He studies comparative politics and his dissertation, Brokers and the Roots of Partisanship, examines how partisanship can arise from effective organizing in the absence of well-defined ideological competition. His regional interests are Southeast Asia and Latin America, with special focus on Indonesia and Brazil. He also has projects on election fraud.
