Whiting, Sam

popular music scholar, musician, and lecturer at UniSA Creative. His work is primarily focused on music scenes and other creative industries, and his doctoral research focussed on the social and cultural value of small live music venues. Previous peer-reviewed publications of Dr Whiting’s have explored the music industry, the live music ecology, music scenes, issues of access and live music, alternative forms of capital within the creative industries, heritage, gender studies and cultural identity. His recent teaching focusses on cultural economics and the creative industries. Dr Whiting’s previous research experience has included work with the Live Music Office, the City of Melbourne, Monash University, RMIT University, and the University of Tasmania. Sam is also the the Secretary of the Australia-New Zealand branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM)
