März 2013 Bücher: The Russian bulletin, 1863-1917, Censorship in Russia, 1865-1905 - Daniel Balmuth, a scholar of the Soviet Union and Russia and a member of the history faculty for 40 years, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Saratoga HospitalBorn June 20, 1929, in New York City, Dan earned a bachelor’s degree in history at City College and continued his education at Cornell University, where he earned master’s and doctoral degrees in Russian history and received Cornell’s Boldt and White fellowships. He was an assistant instructor at Cornell from 1951 to 1953. Returning to New York City, he married Rita Jacknow in 1953. The couple stayed in New York City briefly while he continued working on his dissertation and she taught grade school. Then he taught at the State University Teachers College at Plattsburgh and at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., before joining the Skidmore community in 1958
