McCrimmon, Barbara

1918–2011

Barbara S. McCrimmon passed away peacefully in Charlottesville on Sunday, July 31, 2011. Daughter of Webster Smith and Jessie Sargeant, Barbara was born on May 3, 1918, and grew up in Anoka, Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota, where she majored in art and music and participated in the Kappa Delta sorority. After her graduation in 1939, she married Professor James McCrimmon, whom she had met on board a ship while traveling to London. The couple had two sons, and the family lived in Toledo, Ohio, Urbana-Champagne, Illinois, and Tallahassee, Florida, before moving to a retirement community in Charlottesville, Virginia ... She held various positions as librarian, was editorial assistant for the Journal of Library History, and was adjunct professor at the School of Library Science at Florida State University
