Beard, Robert W.

1930–2012

He earned a B.S. in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1951. After three years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he earned a M.A. from LSU in 1956 and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1962, both in Philosophy. He held appointments at Princeton, Michigan, Iowa, LSU, and, for the majority of his career, Florida State University. On a two-year sabbatical from teaching, Bob performed magic shows for children all over the Southeast under the pseudonym Robert Bart
