Hillman, John R.

1944–2021

BSc, PhD, FLS, CBiol, FRSB, FRSE; born in Farnborough, Kent, educated at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, and obtained his BSc (1965) and PhD (1968) from the Botany Department at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth; Director and Chief Executive of the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) (now James Hutton Institute) during 1986-2005 ; As a result of collaborations with colleagues at The American University of Beirut, Professor Hillman became interested in Middle Eastern affairs.
