pharmaceutical engineer; former cancer surgeon who now develops cancer drugs; studied medicine at the University of Wales and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and a consultant surgeon at the Hammersmith Hospital in London where he lad the breast and colon cancer clinics; grew up in Wales; mother was a soprano in the chorus of the Welsh National Opera
