S.Jacquemart, born in Chênée (Liège) 1926, worked at the Institut Royal, des Sciences Naturelles in Brussels since 1948. He was an expert qn the taxonomy of Trichoptera and Coliembola and he interested - himself in the ecology of the soil fauna. After studying a number of habitats in particular freshwater ones, he took up the study of African Trichoptera, mostly collected by Belgian expeditions to the great lakes of Africa, and to the National Parks of; Zaire. Later, in 1961 he turned to Collembola, and worked on material sent to him from Europe and Africa. He also collected himself during many overseas expeditions, which included the Middle East (Iran), Ceylon, Thailand, Sahara (Air), Niger, the Galapagos Islands, Argentina, Chile, Juan Fernandez, Easter Island, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica and Paraguay. His last mission to Paraguay was not completed because he con- tracted the disease from which he died one month later. S. Jacquemart was also an artist and excelled in the casting of plants and animals, in plaster and in plastic and in the mounting of ecological dioramas for museum ...
