Dempster, Germaine

Germaine Celestine Henriette Colette was born in France, emigrated to the United States in 1924, completed her Ph.D. in English Literature at Stanford University, California. Her thesis on the dramatic irony of Geoffrey Chaucer set the stage for years of extensive study on Chaucer and the Canterbury Tales. She moved to the University of Chicago and married Arthur J. Dempster, professor of physics at the university
