Wallaert, Matt

For over fifteen years, he has been applying behavioral science to practical problems, from startup exits to the Fortune 500 to an array of pro-social side projects. As one of the first behavioral scientists to leave academia and work in industry, he’s given hundreds of talks on the science of behavior change at the UN, SXSW, and beyond. He was most recently the healthcare industry’s first Chief Behavioral Officer at Clover Health, a multi-billion dollar insurance company, where he directed one of the world’s largest behavioral science teams, combining qualitative researchers, quantitative researchers, and project managers. Currently located in San Diego, Matt prefers cowboy boots to sneakers and Legos to blank paper. He also wears a uniform of used clothing that a script buys for him on eBay. He is a dedicated Oregonian and believes strongly that the Pacific Northwest is the best possible place to live. He is a graduate of Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (IB) and Swarthmore College (psychology and education), spent some time in a PhD program at Cornell University (social psychology) before joining his first startup.
