Her previous research has examined gender in Old Norse-Icelandic literature itself (with a focus on the Völsung legend in both the Poetic Edda and Völsunga saga) as well as in rewritings and re-imaginings of the Norse world (particularly those in works by William Morris and J.R.R. Tolkien, and in children's literatur). She has published on picturebook deciptions of Vikings.
