Parents were school teachers, father retired as HM. He did his MSc Zoololgy (Entomology special subject) from St. Thomas College, Thrissur in 1972. He served as Forest Range Officer after training in Southern Forest Rangers College, Coimbatore during 1974-1976. He was conferred I.F.S by Govt of India, served in Forest Department for 35 years and retired as Dy. Conservator of Forests in 2011. He resides in Thrissur
