Laurea degree (cum laude) in Physics from the "Federico II University" of Naples, Italy, in 1973, and the PhD Honoris Causa from the Uppsala University, Sweden, in 2002. Since 1973, she has been working in the field of image processing and pattern recognition at the Institute of Cybernetics E. Caianiello of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), where she has been director of research until she retired in February 2015. She is currently an Associate Researcher at the Institute for High Performance Computing and Networking, CNR (ICAR-CNR).
