In obituary dated Jan. 12, 2017: Frank Todd, a world authority on penguins and waterfowl; died Dec. 8 at his home in Serra Mesa [San Diego, Calif.]; he was 74; ornithologist who served as curator of birds at the Los Angeles Zoo and helped to establish the California condor conservation program before joining SeaWorld in 1972; Frank Sturtevant Todd was born Aug. 25, 1942 in Colon, Panama; before moving to the United States and earning a degree from the University of Montana, he helped found the Summitt Zoo at the Panama Botanical Garden; after leaving SeaWorld in 1988, Mr. Todd founded EcoCepts International, an environmental and zoological consulting firm, and became a shipboard naturalist serving as resident scientist on research cruises; also served as a senior research fellow at the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute
