Arche, María J.

Dr María J. Arche has a PhD in Theoretical Linguistics and Language Acquisition. Her research falls within the syntax-semantics interface focusing on Tense, Aspect, Argument Structure and copular verbs. She has studied these topics in the grammar of Spanish and has also investigated their crosslinguistic variation and acquisition. Her doctoral dissertation was directed by Timothy Stowell (University of California, Los Angeles) and Violeta Demonte (Ortega y Gasset Institute of Madrid) and was published as Individuals in Time: Tense, aspect and the individual/stage distinction, in the collection Linguistics Today, John Benjamins Publishing (Amsterdam/Philadelphia) in 2006. Later on she was a Visiting Professor in Linguistics at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Southampton in the UK for the Economic and Social Research Council funded project, Linguistic development in L2 Spanish: creation and analysis of a learner corpus (a.k.a. SPLLOC). With an agenda motivated by her work, this project enjoyed of a second phase where Dr Arche acted as a project advisor. In these projects she has worked with Professors Rosamond Mitchell (University of Southampton), Florence Myles (University of Essex) and Drs Domínguez (University of Southampton) and Marsden (University of York). She has been a visiting scholar at the department of Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in terms of 2010 and 2011 and is a member of an international coalition fostering projects about Grammatical Variation and Acquisition led by Dr Angeliek van Hout, funded by the Netherlands Academy of Science (2014-2017).
