She was the wife and longtime manager of Dexter Gordon; scholar, researcher, and archivist who has done pioneering research on jazz in Harlem in the 1930s and the history of jazz in the Bronx, NY. She is also compiling information for a book on three great women of jazz: tombonist Melba Liston, organist Shirley Scott, and singer Maxine Sullivan
