He was born in 1951, grew up in Skien and has lived in North Norway since 1973. He attended Trondarnes folk high school and studied mechanics in Guovdageaidnu and Hammerfest. After working as a mechanic in the fish-processing industry in Hammerfest for almost a decade he attended the technical school and was teaching mechanical subjects in upper secondary school in Guovdageaidnu 1988-98.
