Brown, Julie

Dr Julie Brown is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Industries in the School of Journalism, Media and Culture. Prior to appointment in October 2017, she was Associate Professor of Creative Enterprise at Southampton Solent University. She has also been a Transformation Fellow in Cultural Economy at University of Leeds; and she spent 6 years as a Research Fellow at University of Birmingham. Her research has been funded by EU INTERREG IVA, AHRC Connected Communities, British Council, NESTA and Crafts Council UK and she has researched on large-scale, multi-disciplinary consortia projects for EPSRC and EU FP6. - She has researched, published and taught on the role of the cultural and creative industries in urban and regional place-making and economic development; sites and spaces of contemporary cultural and creative production; conditions of contemporary creative and cultural work and labour; and cultural and creative sector policy development. She is currently undertaking collaborative research on coworking and coworking spaces; and is working closely with Creative Cardiff to support the development of creative SMEs in the Cardiff Capital city-region
