Nelson, J. Ron

J. Ron Nelson PhD, has extensive training and experience in professional development, child development, explicit and intentional instructional design principles, scientifically based early literacy and reading, randomized field trial research methodologies, and risk factor developmental pathways for learning and mental health problems. Dr. Nelson has written more than 150 articles, book chapters, and books that focus on serving children at risk for school failure and other research issues. He has developed a number of behavior and literacy interventions that have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, including the registered behavioral strategy Think Time - Stepping Stones to Literacy, Early Vocabulary Connections, and the Multiple Meaning Vocabulary program. In 2000, he received the Distinguished Early Career Research Award from the Council for Exceptional Children.
