- Study of the various phases of the Ancient Egyptian language including grammatical analysis with a focus on meaning. - Study of original Ancient Egyptian textual sources in hieroglyphs and hieratic, both in raw form for primary publication and in interpretation for the understanding of Ancient Egyptian society and culture. - Study of subjective modes of expression in Ancient Egyptian, including the expression of person-centred experience and rhetorical modes of language use connected with self-presentation in discourse (particularly in literature and letters). Increasingly centred on pragmatics and cognition and the role of subject-centred inferences in meaning and understanding.
