They covered a “Diözese” (in this case Bistum Aarhus), and they were supported by wealthy citizens and the clergy in the Diözese. The Aarhus Stifts-Bibliotek was established in 1821, and it merged with the library of Aarhus Kathedralschule in 1881. Most of the library was transferred to the State and University Library in 1895"
