Pooley, Thomas M.

Associate professor of musicology and chair of the Department of Art and Music at the University of South Africa. He holds a PhD in musicology from the University of Pennsylvania and is editor in chief of "Muziki: Journal of Music Research in Africa". He has published widely on music, language, and dance in Africa, and is the founding director of the independent label Thukela Records.His dissertation is a cognitive study of melody and song prosody in Nguni music.
