Ättar, Zäynul

In the 14th century, Haji Zaynul Ettar, who would later become a famous doctor and pharmacologist, practiced in Xinjiang. He wrote A Pharmacopoeia (Ikhtiyaratiy Bedìiy, Medicinal Collection of Bedìiy Jamal). This book was dedicated to the King of Khotan and his Queen “Bedi'iy Jamal”. It is now regarded as one of the most important manuals of Uyghur medicine. The book was written in Persian and composed of two parts. The medicines of common use were listed in an order of Arabic alphabet at the first part and included alternate names of medicines, as well as their nature, characteristics, usage, dosage, and potential toxicity. The second part of the book introduces some complex medicines.
