His research concerns secondary and upper secondary students’ motivation to learn languages other than English, such as Spanish, French and German. His focus is on the development of motivational trajectories, gender differences, and whether poor motivation can be related to processes in which, for example, the student’s Spanish-speaking self-concept is appraised in relation to an often more robust English-speaking self-concept.
