Kertes, Aviezer S.

1922–1988

Aviezer Stevan Kertes (known as Steve to his friends outside Israel); born in Szeged, Hungary; died 1988;he was a leading figure in the community of researchers on solvent extraction chemistry, initiator and leader of the Solubility Data Project of IUPAC; 1949 M.S. degree in Chemical Technology at the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia; emigrated to Israel, 1950: student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, doctoral degree in 1953; 1955-1977 Researcher at the Institut du Radium in Paris; 1957: appointed a lecturer at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. 1962: sabbatical leave, spent at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts; 1974-1986 co-editor of ISEC (International Solvent Extraction Conference) proceedings. 1988 posthumously: Carl Hanson medal
