PhD in materials science from the Technical University of Szczecin (Stettin) Poland in 1975, in 1981 he migrated to Australia; Chief Research Scientist at the CSIRO, Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation; for his research in the field of interfacial interactions of sealants, adhesives and coatings, Dr Gutowski has won the 2011 Eureka Prize for Commercialisation of Innovation
