Scott, Edward John Long
1840–1918
born in Bridgwater on 11 April 1840. Educated at Marlborough school and Oxford. He was a classical and Sanskrit scholar. From 1868 he worked at the British Museum becoming Keeper of Manuscripts in 1888 and Egerton librarian. Author of several books on varying subjects. Died in 1918 in Westminster Hospital.
