looks at questions of memory, trauma and the archive in post-1945 German literature and art; is interested in visual culture and the role of visual media, especially photography, in remembering the past; has worked on the German author W. G. Sebald, who is well known for his innovative use of visual material in his prose, and the Austrian author Christoph Ransmayr - is now looking at other authors, as well as visual, performance and memorial artists who use the archive to engage with Germany’s recent history
