From 1979 to 1981 he was general secretary of the Union of Writers and one of the co-founders of the House of Poetry in Morocco, in 1999 he co-founded the League of Writers of Morocco. He is at present Professor of Literature and Chair of the Department of Arabic at the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Marrakesh.
