Harvey, John

Qualified as a doctor from Cambridge University in 1970 and worked in primary care in the Yemen for nine years. After completing training in General Practice, entered public health medicine training in East Anglia in 1982, and was appointed as consultant in 1987. Moved to Newcastle in 1989 as consultant in Public Health Medicine and was appointed Director of Public Health in 1992. Took up post as Deputy Medical Officer of Health in Jersey in 1998, and was appointed Director, Public Health Services and Medical Officer of Health in 2000. Appointed as Director of Public Health in Havering PCT in October 2003 and visiting Professor with the Institute of Primary Care and Public Health at London Southbank University. Became Medical Director of Havering PCT in July 2006. John is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
