Dept., Dacca U.; geb. im "Burdwan district" in Westbengalen; 1931 B.A. in Geschichte am Hughli Mohsin College, 1933 M.A. an der Univ. of Calcutta; Ph.D. an der School of Oriental Studies (Univ. London); machte auch ein Diplom in Bibliothekswissenschaft; 1938 Bibliothekar an der Calcutta Univ.; 1939 "lecturer" am History Department der Calcutta Univ. und lehrte ab 1940 ebendort am Department of Islamic History and Culture; ab 1950 leitete er das Department of Islamic History and Culture der Univ. Dhaka, wo er bis zu seiner Emeritierung 1973 blieb; stellte u.a. den "Descriptive catalogue of the Persian, Urdu and Arabic manuscripts in the Dacca University library" zusammen
